The Consecration of the First Hierarch in Africa
On Saturday the 27th of April (May 10 ns), 2008, in the temple of St. Xenia in the city of Limassol, Cyprus, Archimandrite Matthew (Muroki) was consecrated Bishop of Kenya by Metropolitan Kirykos of Mesogaias and Lavreotikis with the full participation of Bishop Gerontios of Vrancea (Romania).
Bishop Matthew is a clergyman of the Autocephalous Genuine Orthodox Church of Cyprus and has been a monk since the age of 18. He is highly regarded for his missionary and educational work in Kenya.
At the dedication of our new bishop believers came to Cyprus from Greece, Australia, Canada, America, Romania, and Russia.
